Fall 2013 Color Palettes

Designers are taking a break from the traditional fall color palette this season, and going for a more unconventional look. I usually associate dark colors with the fall season (black, gray, burnt orange, and oxblood red.), but I wouldn't mind experimenting with a few of these colors this season.

Pastels
Yes, I know what you’re thinking. Pastels are usually synonymous with Easter or springtime.( Baby Blue, Pale Pink, Lavender, etc.) Well, this year these colors have crossed their boundaries. Brands like Marc Jacobs, Celine, and Dior have all made use of these hues, with pale pink being the most popular in the bunch. Pair these colors with white for a winning combination! If you’re a little more adventurous, I encourage you to experiment with your own color combos.  Personally, I love how pale pink looks with leopard print! According to Lucky Magazine, choose a pastel top rather than a bottom. This creates a slimming optical illusion. (Thank you Lucky!) Also, keep in mind that not every pastel color will work for you. So, choose a color that compliments your skin tone.

Jewel Tones

Jewel tones are colors that resemble those of precious or semi-precious stones. (Emerald Green, Amethyst Purple, Ruby Red, Sapphire and Turquoise Blue, and Citrine Yellow.) This palette instantly gives your outfit a luxe appeal, and pairs well with black, grey, or white. Unlike the pastel palette, jewel tones compliment any skin tone, while highlighting its natural glow. It’s recommended that you choose a maximum of two colors per outfit to avoid looking like a Junkanoo costume! This can also be incorporated into your accessories if you’re afraid of too much color.
